オバマ大統領就任演説

労働法の試験が終わった後、息抜きに就任演説をみてました。

実は、初見では聞き取りやすい英語だなーと思いつつ、単語は聞き取れても、ほとんど意味は取れなかったのですが(＾＾；)

でもリスニングの学習には最適の教材ですね。

ちなみにYoutubeで30秒くらいにオバマ大統領が宣誓中に"execute..."といって黙るところがあるのですが、これは合衆国憲法第2条の原文において

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, ....(以下略)"

とfaithfullyがexecuteの前に来ている部分を最高裁長官が間違えて

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will execute the Office of President of the United States faithfully, ....(以下略)"

と、faithfullyを後に持ってきてしまったので、それに気づいたオバマ大統領が最高裁長官に言い直してね、と促したシーンらしいです。(NY系巨大法律事務所で国際企業取引に関わる日々より)
だからにやっとしてたんですね。

おそらくこれからこの演説の中で繰り返しメディアに取り上げられるのは、この部分。

を彷彿とさせますね。

自分たちが何をしなければいけないか、そしてそれを誰のためにしなければならないのか。

「国民主権」と日本国憲法の「国民の義務」いう言葉の意味と合わせて考えてみるといいかもしれないですね。
